Urban Forest Gardening

Inspiration from a Permaculture Garden in Melbourne, Florida

Forest gardening is for everyone! I believe that permaculture and growing a forest garden can help make the world a better place. There are innumerable benefits from designing such a system. Composting helps reduce all the food waste that goes to landfills, getting food from your backyard helps reduce environmental impact from shipping and poor agricultural practices elsewhere, and focusing on healthy soils results in healthy nutrient-dense food and less water usage. Creating a bio-diverse landscape full of native flowers and trees as well as edibles helps create an environment that benefits local wildlife too! Creating permaculture systems in our urban cities and towns also opens up the opportunity to rewild monoculture landscapes. There are so many benefits to working with nature rather than against it.

Although much of my writing covers the subtropical climate of Florida, I hope that people are still able to gain knowledge and insight that they can apply to their own backyards, wherever that may be!
